PiON is a true uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for all Raspberry Pi models as long as they have GPIO pins. The whole package you get includes:
* a PiON Board
* a 7.2V 700mAH AAA NiMH battery pack with connector
* a cable between PiON Board and Raspberry Pi
* a cable between an AC to DC power adapter and the PiON Board.
Please note the AC to DC power adapter is not included in the package but can easily find one at online or local stores, it should has an output between 7v and 15v, a minimum output of 15w, and with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm connector.

The basic function is obvious the UPS function. When external power starts to decline, PiON Board can detect it and instantly switch power supply to battery pack without interrupting the running of Raspberry Pi. When external power is back, the PiON Board will switch power supply back to it and recharge the battery pack.
Second, PiON can server as the soft switch of Raspberry Pi. The Power Switch on PiON Board (see pictures) can soft shut down and start Raspberry Pi in any condition at any time, so it provides a very convenient way to power up and down Raspberry Pi just like you do through the interface.
Beyond above functions, PiON Board also monitors the battery voltage, it provides an option to automatically soft shut down the Raspberry Pi through Function Switch 1 when the voltage reaches a specific low level. This provides you extra confidence that you won't loss your data and avoid SD Card corruption.
Lastly, Function Switch 2 will enable you charge either AAA battery or AA battery pack.
The last picture shows an example of PiON application. It features one of our future server and file management system running on Raspberry Pi, you can see the whole system has several layers with PiON sitting on top.
